On Nov. 4, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Cameron Mingea and Josh Golub showcased their senior music recital. Kristen Topham, director for the Longwood University center for community music, assisted them in their recital.

The recital was held in the Molnar Recital Hall in the Wygal Music Building at Longwood University. The recital consisted of seven songs, including famous works from Norbert Burgmüller, Igor Stravinsky and Aaron Copland.

Mingea played the clarinet and was featured in all seven of the songs. When asked about his first piece, Mingea says he was 100% nervous, but settled in after the second piece. “Tonight was so fun, after the second piece. I was incredibly nervous playing all those songs, including some by myself,” says Mingea.

Topham and Golub, who played the piano and saxophone, would accompany Mingea in certain pieces throughout the seven songs. At certain points throughout the recital, Topham and Golub would leave the stage, and Mingea would have his own solo pieces.

Kimberlin Schmidt, who attended the recital says, “It is crazy how well Cameron kept it together throughout the whole recital. This is such a big production and he did really well whether he had other’s on stage with him or was by himself.”

The recital lasted an hour. After the performance, a reception for the performers and audience members was held in the Haga Room in the Wygal Music Building.

Refreshments were presented at the reception, where performers and audience members mingled and talked about the night’s recital.

“You don’t know how people will react to your performance, so it is relieving to see how well it went,” says Mingea.

Madison Amos, who attended the recital says, “The recital was so well put together and it is awesome to see our fellow students go and showcase their talent.”

The music department’s upcoming recital performances are Nov. 11, and Nov. 14, 2017. Performances will be respectively held in the Molnar Recital Hall and the Jarman Auditorium at Longwood University.
